U.S. Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Circumstances being what they are in the these days, there has never been a better time to dive into the world of decorative D.I.Y. for gift ideas. This year the hipster family welcomed a new nephew and that means a new mother who is excited to celebrate her first Mother’s Day. Her little one is just about able to sleep in his own room, so what better gift than some D.I.Y. artwork to decorate his nursery.
In the true spirit of being stuck at home, along with my love of anything art, I decided to make D.I.Y. wall art with the baby’s grandmother. With stores being closed we looked for art supplies around the house and looked for some inspiration online. Luckily, she was an art teacher we had all the materials we needed. We used 2 small canvases, and 3 different mid-sized canvases. For a medium, we used acrylic paint.
Build a Background
We began by creating a galaxy background. I know we are a little behind the galaxy trend curve, circa 2016, but the theme for the nursery was declared to be outer space. Start with a black base, then add in some cerulean in a halo, followed by purple. Blend these colours into the black with a sponge brush, the basic kind you would find at a craft store. Next I added white to a sea sponge and dabbed it through the centre of the halos to create the full galaxy effect. Paint the sides of all canvases black, that way you will not have to frame them to hang them up.
