Maple Cranberry Old Fashioned: A seasonal take on a classic

As the weather starts to turn and the leaves begin to fall, we find ourselves reaching for one of our favourite cocktails, a Maple Cranberry Old Fashioned. A few splashes of bitters, a good dose of bourbon, and a hint of sweet can warm up a crisp autumn evening or snowy winter night. The classic Old Fashioned has always been the go to drink for family get togethers as the holiday season starts to get into full swing. Here in the hipster household, we insisted on continuing this tradition when hosting our friends and hipster family for a London Thanksgiving.
As with so many Thanksgiving traditions moving overseas, we have adapted to both fit our new surroundings but also grabbed onto the strong flavours, colours, and smells of our childhoods. With that in mind, is it any surprise that we developed an autumnal twist on this seasonal staple? Our strong Northeast U.S. upbringings influenced this take on the classic tipple. With real maple syrup to add that hint of sweet and a delicate cranberry flavour that supports the spicy notes of the bourbon, this is sure to become one of your fall favourites as well.

Cocktail Hour!
-
In your tumbler, combine 1/2 tsp of Maple syrup and 4-5 dashes of Orange bitters
-
Add a splash of warm water, just warm enough to easily dissolve the syrup
-
Swirl or stir to fully dissolve the syrup and mix in the bitters
-
Add a jigger of your favourite bourbon
-
Top up with chilled cranberry soda
No cocktail is complete without a well matched garnish. We recommend freezing some cranberries in ice cubes for a festive twist that is perfect for finishing off our Maple Cranberry Old Fashioned. Not an ice fan? No problem. Just drop a couple of fresh cranberries into your drink for a splash of colour. Remember to enjoy responsibly.
Make your Thanksgiving pop with our Bourbon Pecan Pie.
