Creating Customised Cornhole

Cornhole is a classic summer game to bring together friends and family for some light competition. Tossing canvas bags at a hole to best one another is a great way to bond. If you’re looking to purchase one, there is no need to spend extra money on an expensive unique set. You can easily work on creating customised cornhole boards. Spend some time in the D.I.Yurt to create tailor-made creations that will make you the talk of the town.

Directions to Creating Customised Cornhole
You will need the following materials:
-
Blank Cornhole set (ours was ordered from wayfair)
-
Rag
-
Ruler (to make it easier I would use both T-Square and a regular ruler, though you can just use a regular one for everything)
-
Pencil
-
Painter’s tape
-
Scissors
-
Indoor/outdoor latex paint (Can use spray paint as well, we used it for the gold so we could get the metallic finish that couldn’t be replicated with paint)
-
Paint brushes
And here are some optional materials:
-
Stencils
- Satin Varnish
Ok, now lets get creating customised cornhole!
Step 1: Mark your Lines
-
-
Once you have unpacked your newly acquired cornhole set, wipe it down with a cloth. I would suggest doing this between steps, once paint is dry or before you start each day to make sure that the surface is clear of things like eraser pieces, pollen, or anything that would affect the adhesion of the tape and the paint. Then prep the boards by measuring everything out with a ruler. (If you are following our measurements please see the below:
-Border: 3.8 cm (1.5″)
– Side Polygon: 12.7 x 87.5 x 61 cm (5″x34.5″x24″)
-Centre Polygon: 21.5 x 54.5 cm (8.5″x21.5″)
-Diameter of the Circle: 26.7 cm (10.5″)
-
(Note: for ours we didn’t end up using the circle marks for anything but using for the logo measurements, however if you wanted to make your logos larger or fill them in with a block colour scheme, you can make them larger if you wish. Take creative liberties, this is your custom project.)
-
-
-
Using a pencil mark the edges, and all the blocks you would like to fit in. Tape the edges of the blocks you would like to fill in first. We chose to fill in all the shapes that were not touching so the edges, the centre polygon and the large triangle of white.
-

Step 2: Block in Paint
-
Fill in the areas with the chosen paint. For the gold paint we covered everything that we did not want newsprint to make sure the spray paint did not touch. Follow the instructions for dry times and additional coats as needed to create the opacity you desire. Pull the tape off when the paint is wet to make sure you do not pull off layers of paint with the tape. Once all those sections have been left to fully dry the allotted amount of time, start to tape the next section. Follow the same instructions.

Step 3: Add Logos
-
For the logos feel free to use stencils, or freehand. I traced the designs in with pencil. Fill in with your desired paint colours.

Optional Steps for Creating Customised Cornhole:
Step 4: Colour Legs
-
Unscrew the moveable legs of the corn hole board, then follow the same painting instructions. Once it is all fully dry, reattach the legs.
Step 5: Add Varnish
-
If your paint is thick and you might want to add a varnish on top. To make sure the boards didn’t get extra slippery, we went with a satin finish varnish instead of a glossy.

Once everything is dry, set up your new game, grab a beverage and enjoy. We hope you enjoyed the process of creating customised cornhole.
